Passing Thoughts

Passing Thoughts
©2015 Rolland G. Smith

Late in life, there’re things I’ve learned
That if you keep your loves too close
There will be things in life, not earned
By losing what what you cherish most.

When old, the past is easily lost
And future thoughts come blooming late
For when the spring has turned to frost
We must succumb to spirit’s fate.

And if the poet calls to rage
Against the dimming of the light
We must remember life’s a stage
For what is next, is past the fight.

There is much more to who we are
If only memory served us well.
Where all of us could reach the star
That write’s the story tears will tell.
