The Heat

It is hot here in the northeast and it begs a question and an answer from the science minded.

Airplanes have difficulty taking off when the runway temperature is very hot and sometimes in Texas and Arizona the flights are cancelled. The air is less dense thus rate of climb is lessened when it's hot.

Is the same true for birds and flying insects? Is it harder for them to fly when it is very hot?
