Flipping The Bird

Some thoughts on flipping the bird.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have flipped the bird any number of times in my life and found it offered limited solace to my momentary frustration. It did, however, communicate a singular sentiment toward another as a private gesture.

That said the televised action on Sunday’s Super Bowl half-time show with Madonna was inexcusable.
British rapper M.I.A. flipped the third finger bird during a song sequence with Madonna. The NBC delay folks didn’t catch it and yesterday offered an apology to anyone who was offended.

M.I.A’s birth name is Mathangi Arulpragasam. She is of Tamil origin of Sri Lanka.  She has some talent, but no manners. She should to be banned from American television performances.

The 36 year old ought to know better when and where one can go off script to display a personal feeling.

To me she diminishes not only herself, but also the performances of her on stage colleagues. She may have had a rough young life, but it is no excuse for arrogance and crudeness.

Go home “Maya” come back when you learn how to behave.
