Gaia's call for Kids

I'm a  little disappointed in a radio news-director in Texas who writes on his blog that global warming a a sham of big business to make money. I think his judgement is lessened by Texas myopia. Anyway, just thought I'd mention the post from the Long Star state.

Meantime, I'm still trying to keep this month's posts in the poetic realms so here's another thought of why the Children and Nature network's philosophy is so important to today's children.

Gaia’s Lament
© 2010 Rolland G Smith

When eyes of youth look up at us
And ask what do we see?
The answer lies within our love
Of nature's land and sea.

All children know that deep within
Their spirit is attuned
To trees and plants and furry things
And flowers that festoon.

Kids need adults to take the step
And point to what’s outdoors.
To see what crawls and buzzes ‘round
Or washes up on shore.

They’ll come a time in children’s lives
When growing they forget
To see the stars and sniff the breeze
Or feel a barefoot - wet.

But there is hope within our hearts
When actions are profound.
So keep the vision in your mind
When children are around.

Then take them out to feel the earth
And its connecting force
For then they’ll know the grace of all -
That nature is the source.
