The Syrian peace talks have stopped with no agreement on
even how to negotiate.
In the meantime the citizens of Syria suffer and die in the
cruelty of civil war. Every death, every pain, every tear is the responsibility
of a very few men. Shame on them.
The talks broke down because of the Assad government’s
rejection of the suggestion that the negotiators talk about the demands on both
sides, rather than on government’s priorities.
What is unfathomable in the realms of understanding is that
these men cannot see the pain of their fellow citizens through their greed of
control and their insulation from reality. Shame on them.
Given the unbelievable pain inflicted on the citizens of
Syria and even tacitly acknowledging the other conflicts in our human world, I
am convinced that The Source in his infinite unconditional love
weeps at our selfishness and cruelty.
Each of us has to ask, “what is wrong with our collective
human spirit?” We claim peace as our national and personal motto, but our
actions are based on want, greed, and fear.
I don’t take my own nation out of that criticism. America’s
actions have been suspect and despicable on many occasions throughout history.
Shame on us.
Is there an answer? There is if we are willing to choose
openness, honesty, admissions, apologies, remorse, sharing, and unconditional
respect and appreciation for other’s beliefs, culture, and traditions.
In many ways, I think it is time to throw the old men out
and let the children of the conflict negotiate a peace. The children would probably
see more reason through their tears than the old men can through their hatred.
