Here we go again!
Some former CIA and special ops personnel are saluting the
republican banner of Romney and Ryan. Frankly I think a former association in
the active military on high secret missions should be on a code of political silence for at least one
term of a President.
A political advertisement repeats over and over President
Obama saying, “I directed,” meaning he authorized the special operations and
secret incursion into Bin Laden’s compound to either kill or capture him.
The ad has a strong looking special forces kind of guy named
Ben Smith saying over and over again, “Mr. President you did not kill Osama Bin
Laden.” The ad does not say whether Mr. Smith was involved in the Pakistan
raid, but it leaves the impression or innuendo that he might have been.
Of course Mr. Obama did not kill Bin Laden. Nor did
President Obama ever claim he did. All he did is say to the American people
that he directed a.k.a. authorized the operation to do so.
The implication in the ad is that Mr. Obama leaked some
information on the operation and is taking credit for the Bin Laden killing.
It is weak on facts and blends some truths into fiction and
conjecture in an advertisement condemning President Obama.
I am tired of these kinds of commercials on both sides. All
sides seem to think that we are an illiterate public that we will believe
anything put before us if it is dramatic enough or says enough blatant
falsehoods that appeals to our political passions.
All candidates are flawed. No one is perfect. Let us demand
truths and honesty in our advertisements and have our party campaigns stop
pandering to our political prejudice and lazy factual pursuits.
