I am at a loss to understand why Donald Trump seems to be
getting major support in the hinterland of America. I am assuming his
supporters are intelligent people who don't read to ascertain the truth. Trumps statements and policies are as desultry as a Mexican jumping bean.
Like the rest of us, hinterland voters are fed-up with the established
Washington politicos, but Iowans and others in the primary states are not
linking the Trump rhetoric to reason. They are not connecting the dots of political,
flamboyant, and gobbledygook campaign speech to the practicality of daily life.
Sure “The Donald” is rich. He has all the toys most people
will never have, but that doesn't make him smart; that doesn't make him a
statesman, a leader, a man of presidential character. It makes him a caricature
of a circus ringmaster who shouts to the crowd, “Ladies and Gentlemen, in the
center ring, my helicopter, come have a free ride.”
Americans must not let their frustration with Washington
cloud their wisdom. Washington must change or the buffoons, the charlatans, and
the pied pipers of illusion will lead this country into the abyss of oblivion.
