The orchestrated killing of two journalists in Virginia was tragic, but I doubt it will motivate the feds and states to modify their gun possesions laws. If Connecticut's school killing tragedy didn't do it Virginia's insane tragedy won't propell weak politicians to stand up to the NRA lobbyists and money in Congress.
For journalists covering this story it is difficult not to give the killer his fifteen minutes of fame. Some news organizations have tried to minimize the information about the killer, supposedly denying him his fame, but it's not working. Reporters, readers and viewers always look for the "why" in any story.
An answer, if we want one, lies in better observation and treatment of human mental abberations and stricter gun control laws.
