I just read an article that criticized the fact that the New
York Police Department, last year, sent two officers to Kenya to investigate
the Kenyan Mall massacre.
I understand that the NYPD believes it needs all the
information it can obtain anywhere in order to protect the greatest city in
world.
Their argument is persuasive.
BUT…the NYPD sent the two officers to Kenya without approval
of the Kenyan government. They had no credentials to authorize them to get or
give discovered information to government investigators or to any other
legitimate investigatory agency, foreign or domestic.
My questions are, is this not a waste of budgetary money on
the part of the NYPD? If you’re not invited, why go and possibly confound the
many investigations going on?
Granted this happened under the previous city administration
other than the current DeBlasio regime.
It seems to me that the NYPD is trying
to emulate the United States Government in being the police force of the world.
It hasn’t worked for the Feds, so I doubt it’ll work for two NYPD detectives. I
think New York City needs to focus its surveillance locally and then demand
cooperation and complete information from all investigatory agencies.
