All right, we are few days into the New Year. Now What? Have
you already altered your resolution? I didn't even make one because every year
I change it when it seems reasonable to do so.
So far no change in Congress. I’ve noticed that bickering,
challenging, and contention continue and are not representative of the America
I perceive.
The new Congress is 80% white, 80% male and 92% Christian.
Some how in my understanding of America that is not what we are. Yes, we’re
white and black and yellow and red to use the color analogy. America is every
ethnic culture, religion and obscure ideology than most places and we probably have
more female eligible voters than male voters in population.
Until each of us is willing to listen to opposing ideologies
with courtesy, respect and how another belief may fit into the greater good of
the whole, then we will not have the peace we seek.
The Republicans say we have to govern good so that the
voters will choose us in 2016. The Democrats say now that we are in the
minority we must obstruct the things the things the Republicans want to
legislate.
That is not governing! That is partisan obstructionism and
it didn’t work when the Democrats were in power and it sure as hell isn’t going
to work with the Republicans in power.
What works? The four “C’s.”
Compromise. Courtesy. Community and Compassion.
