Nine-Eleven has moved through the gestation of time. It has
changed our hearts and hopes. It has changed the way we live and the fears we
embrace. It has joined the despicable annals of infamy: the Alamo, the sinking
of the Maine, and Pearl Harbor.
On this anniversary we continue to look ahead with hope, and
behind to memories and memorials.
To remember the nine-eleven story with the honor it deserves
we need the compassion of our hearts and the healing acknowledgement of
something greater than ourselves.
Each anniversary has its moments of sadness, but our
collective loss is balanced with tribute and sacred ceremonies. Individual
losses can never be assuaged.
New tears and old pain stand alongside the elements of grace
and bravery that embraced that day thirteen-years ago.
Let us remember to be diligent and determined that our
homeland is secure and no other misfits will penetrate the peace we seek and
the peace we are.
