Boston Bombing

The question is not how, but why would anyone want to bring death and destruction to Boston and the people running in the marathon.

The usual reasons are out there:  To retaliate for something, to publicize a cause, to embarrass, to humiliate, to punish, to disrupt.  Those are the sanitized answers. The real answer why misfits and terrorists are moved to bomb innocent people is incomprehensible.

Somehow it doesn’t seem real. We watch the pictures of destruction. We report the dead and injured in numbers. Blame will have to wait.

There are no temporal answers as to how anyone could harbor such a festering hate to do this.

Terrorism is not only foreign to the principles of democracy, but also to the peaceful nature of American life. The bombings frightens those of us who think we are safe, who expect to be safe, but deep down we know it could happen any spring day anywhere.

Right now there are no clear answers. Discernment is difficult when tragedy is the precursor to reason.

Some will find comfort in God.  Some will look elsewhere and expect no answer we can understand.
