I’m in agreement with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie in
his criticism of former White House physician Connie Mariano. She intimated,
because of his weight he might die in office, to a CNN interviewer.
She never met the Governor. She never examined him. She
knows nothings of his medical and family history.
Christie’s weight, although considerable should be of
concern only to him and not to the electorate or to medical speculation.
We have had three Presidents who have had weight problems. Teddy Roosevelt, John Adams, Jr. and William
Howard Taft. If you are really a stickler you might include William Jefferson
Clinton who seemed to always struggle with his weight in the oval office.
I’m not a fan of the American penchant for being overweight.
I presume there are many reasons for a person being heavy and I think culinary
discipline is a factor, but not the only one.
Governor Christie and his family should not have to endure
long distance criticism of his obesity.
The governor said his son heard Dr. Mariano say he might
die in office. Sorry Doctor, that was wrong and the Governor’s outrage is
righteous.
